About the Founder
I’m Eric Stasak, homeschool father of five, engineer, chief financial officer, and successful investor. When I first started investing, I was clueless and often followed others’ advice without success.
But as an engineer, I wanted a reliable system for stock investing. So, I immersed myself in studying, experimenting, and creating a method that worked. After years of refining, I became a successful investor, and I’ve been investing, using my method, since 1991.
How Did the Course Begin?
Starting in 2003, the Stock Market Companion – Stock Investing Course began as a winter series of Saturday early morning teachings for local homeschool students and adults on stock investing and business analysis, introducing and using my SIMPLE Stock Investing Method.
Demand for this course increased as word about it spread. Over time, students of all ages arrived by car and plane to learn this material. A dedicated homeschool parent and friend encouraged me to put the course together in its current format, which I have improved over the years with helpful feedback from students and parents. Students in the U.S. from Alaska to Florida, and now – around the world, are taking this course.
The course is carefully structured based on classical education principles of the trivium – with grammar (terms and definitions), leading to logic (though and analysis), leading to rhetoric (personal application of knowledge and understanding).

Check your state education code for details. The Stock Market Companion – Stock Investing Course requires approximately 102 hours of study and work. Our flexible, Week By Week Lesson Plan in your Teacher’s Guide is the roadmap for your student and covers 18 weeks. There are no time limits on the course. If your student needs to take a break from the course material due to other scheduling conflicts, your student can continue the course the next semester or whenever time allows.
According to the California Department of Education, the California Education Code (EC) 51225.3 has specified a minimum set of courses to meet state requirements to graduate from high school and receive a diploma. The governing boards of local education agencies (LEAs) have the authority to supplement the state minimum requirements at the local level.
EC 51225.3 states that all pupils receiving a diploma of graduation from a California high school must have completed all of the following courses, while in grades nine to twelve, inclusive:
- Unless otherwise specified, each course shall have a duration of one school year:
- Three courses in English
- Two courses in mathematics, including one year of Algebra I (EC Section 51224.5)
- Two courses in science, including biological and physical sciences

Three courses in social studies, including United States history and geography; world history, culture, and geography; a one-semester course in American government and civics, and a one-semester course in economics
- One course in visual or performing arts, foreign language, or commencing with the 2012-13 school year, career technical education. For the purpose of satisfying the minimum course requirement, a course in American Sign Language shall be deemed a course in foreign language
- Two courses in physical education, unless the pupil has been exempted pursuant to the provisions of EC Section 51241
- Other coursework adopted by the local governing board of the LEA
